The Last Blind Date Show

The Last Blind Date Show emerged from McMillan’s year-long writer’s residency working with people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS alongside Nick Lowe’s photography residency in North East England, which was commissioned by the Artists Agency (1991-92). As a queer parody of Cilla Black’s popular yet heteronormative TV show Blind Date the piece presented alternative forms of sexuality.

It was performed to an audience of passersby at Earl Grey Monument, Newcastle, as part of the North East AIDS Week (HIV/AIDS Writers Residency) in May 1992. It was written, directed and produced by McMillan, with a cast that included Patrick Williams, Delta Streete and Becky Palmer.
